The Winter Glow-Up: Why Your Patio Needs “Lemon-Lime” Nandina
In Northern Virginia, winters can look pretty grey. Once the leaves fall, most yards look empty and a bit sad. This one in particular has been icy white for weeks!
As a designer, I want to create Living Art. Spaces that look bright and happy, even on a freezing February morning.
That is why I like to recommend a special plant to my friends: the “Lemon-Lime” Nandina.
Why this plant is a winner
Most evergreen plants are a dark, heavy green. But this one stays a bright, neon yellow-green all year long. While other plants turn brown or look "burnt" when it gets cold, this one keeps that fresh, spring look even in the snow.
Why it’s perfect for your home
It stays small. It only grows about 3 or 4 feet tall. This makes it great for pots on a patio or small spots near your front door.
No hard work. You don’t have to trim it to keep it looking good. It grows in a nice, neat, round shape all by itself.
It’s tough. It handles our Virginia weather perfectly. It doesn't get sick easily, and bugs usually leave it alone.
How to style it
I like to use this plant as a "spotlight" for your yard. I often put them in pots right outside a window so you can see them while you’re cozy inside.
Pro tip: Put this bright green plant in a dark grey or black pot for maximum contrast and color “pop.”
